About the district
History

Kumuram Bheem Asifabad District was carved out of the erstwhile Adilabad district. It is surrounded by the Adilabad, Mancherial and Nirmal districts and by the border of Maharashtra.
The district has 15 mandals and two revenue divisions, Asifabad and Kagaznagar. The headquarters is at Asifabad, a predominantly tribal town. The railway that connects the south and north of India passes through the district. Sirpur-Kaghaznagar is a major station, and there is one RTC depot at Asifabad.
The main crops are rice, cotton and pulses. Singareni Collieries, Sirpur Paper Mills, and spinning and ginning mills form the industrial profile. Fossils from the prehistoric period excavated in and around Asifabad give the place archaeological importance. The Kumuram Bheem project, Gangapur cave and Movvad village are among the attractions.
Kumuram Bheem was a tribal activist who fought the Nizam for jal, jungle and zameen — water, forest and land. After Telangana became a separate state in 2014, the district was re-established with Asifabad as its administrative headquarters on 11 October 2016.
